لغة الكتاب يطيب منها فؤادي
لغة الكرام شهيرةٌ بالضاد
فهي البيان المستنير بقولنا
وبها ينساب حرف مدادي
وهي اللسان لمن أراد فصاحة
وهي البديع لشاعر الأجداد
وبها المراجع والصحائف حبّرت
بالعلم والتيسير والإرشاد
يا عزنا وفخرنا ورمز رقينا
حُفِظتِ من قِبَلِ الحكيم الهادي
جمعت قلوب كل موحدٍ
ببيان حرفك سطِرت أمجادِ
لغةُ العروبة يا كيان أمتي
وسبيل وحي الرسول الهادي

World Arabic Language Day
The Arabic language is a pillar of the cultural diversity of humanity. It is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, used daily by more than 400 million people. World Arabic Language Day is celebrated every year on 18 December since 2012. The date coincides with the day in 1973 that the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted Arabic as the sixth official language of the Organization. READ MORE

Scholars have struggled to define Arabic as a language. On the one hand, one can point to the language of the Qurʾān (or Koran, the sacred book of Islam) as the ideal archetype (or al-lughah al-fuṣḥah, “the most eloquent language”). READ MORE
Exhibition on Arabic Language, a Bridge Between Civilizations
On the occasion of World Arabic Language Day 2021 on 18 December, UNESCO organizes an exhibition on “Arabic Language, a Bridge Between Civilizations” with the support of the Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud Foundation, on the fences of its Headquarters Building in Paris, from 6 to 20 December 2021.
Celebrating the rich diversity of Arabic Language, its strong bonds with various forms of cultural expression, and its significant role in connecting peoples and promoting dialogue, it will showcase diverse approaches to using Arabic language and calligraphy. Composed of impactful artworks, its aim is to spread a message of hope, peace, resilience, and beauty among people, regardless of their language, culture or any other difference. READ MORE
BAYT AL-HIKMAH – THE HOUSE OF WISDOM
Also known as the Grand Library of Baghdad, the House of Wisdom is often referred to a public academy and a learning institution. Founded in Baghdad by the the Abbassid ruler Harun al-Rashid in the late 8th century, Bayt al- Ḥikmah gained popularity under Caliph al-Ma’mun. It quickly became a main center of translations, study and transfer of knowledge. People from all over the Islamic world flocked to the House of Wisdom, speaking many languages and discussing on topics such as philosophy, literature, mathematics, medicine, astronomy and optics.
