Welcoming the Blessed Days of Dhul Hijjah and Eid al-Adha Prayer Announcement
The blessed month of Dhul Hijjah has begun, bringing with it the most sacred days of the year. These are days of worship, reflection, sacrifice, charity, remembrance of Allah, and renewed connection with our faith.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“By the dawn; and by the ten nights.”
(Surah Al-Fajr 89:1–2)
Many scholars explained that the “ten nights” refer to the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
These blessed days are an opportunity to increase in prayer, fasting, charity, Qur’an recitation, dhikr, repentance, family ties, and helping others.
For those not performing Hajj, fasting on the Day of Arafah is especially recommended. The Prophet ﷺ said that fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.
What Should We Do During These Blessed Days?
During the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims are encouraged to:
- Perform the five daily prayers on time
- Increase voluntary prayers and night prayer
- Fast, especially on the Day of Arafah
- Read and reflect on the Qur’an
- Give charity and support those in need
- Recite Takbeer, Tahleel and Tahmeed frequently
- Seek forgiveness and make sincere du’a
- Maintain family ties and good character
The Prophet ﷺ encouraged abundant remembrance of Allah during these blessed days.
